Description
Freya, also known as Freyja, is the Norse goddess of love, magic, fertility, material possessions, beauty and war. She rules over Folkvagner where she receives half of the warriors slain in battle, the other half going to Valhalla. She is both a figure of passionate love and a fierce warrior who wields magic and leads the Valkyries.
Ways to honor Freya include caring for cats, practicing seidr (magic), studying runes, and embracing self-love practices. Honor her on Fridays (named after Frija- Germanic name). Offerings to Freya often include honey, apples, flowers, jewelry, and alcohol (such as beer, wine, or mead). If you choose to keep an alter honoring Freya be sure to include gold, amber, anything having to do with cats, and a falcon feather. Plants associated with Freya are rose (love/sexuality), primrose (sacred flower), mugwort (prophecy/magic), yarrow (healing), mint (prosperity), valerian, and strawberry. Incense of Rose, Sandalwood, or Benzoin can be burnt as an offering to Freya. Crystals associated with Freyja are Amber (represents her tears and Brisingamen necklace), Citrine and Gold (associated with her red-gold tears and wealth/prosperity), Rose Quartz (love), and Garnet (passion and war).
