Artemis is the Greek goddess of the hunt, wild nature, vegetation, and child birth. She is the daughter of Zeus and Leto. Legend states that after she was born she immediately helped her mother to deliver her twin brother Apollo, establishing her as a protector during childbirth. She is usually depicted as a huntress carrying a bow and arrows. She is often accompanied by a deer or with hunting dogs. The association with the deer comes from the story where a young human hunter (Actaeon) stumbled upon her bathing. Enraged she transformed him into a stag only to be torn apart by her hunting dogs.
The best way to honor Artemis is to protect wildlife, care for the natural world, clean up pollution, and donate time and money to ecological betterment. When creating an alter to Artemis use things that symbolize nature and the hunt, such as bow, arrows, moon or animal shaped foods and crystals, mugwort, pine, wildflowers, amaranth, and cypress. Crystals for connecting with Artemis are Moonstone, Labradorite, Green Aventurine, Chrysocolla, Moss Agate, and Clear Quartz.
