Description

Hecate is a Greek goddess associated with magic, witchcraft, crossroads, ghosts, and the moon. She is most often shown holding a pair of torches, a key, or snakes, and accompanied by dogs. She was the only child of the Titans Perses and Asteria. She was favored by Zeus and retained her per-Olympian power and domain, including influence over the Earth, sky, and the Underworld. Hecate assisted Demeter in her search for Persephone, guiding her through the night with flaming torches. After the mother-daughter reunion, Hecate became Persephone’s minister and companion in Hades.

To honor Hecate, consider establishing an alter, offering gifts like wine, honey cakes, lighting candles and engaging in rituals and spell work. You can also learn about her symbols and correspondences, such as crossroads, torches, and certain plants, to further connect with her. Hecate is associated with various plants known for their magical and medicinal properties, often those linked to the liminal spaces and the night. Plants like yew, cypress, and willow are traditionally sacred to her, along with herbs such as mugwort, lavender and garlic. Other plants, including aconite, belladonna, dittany, and mandrake, are also connected to Hecate. Crystals associated with Hecate are moonstone, labradorite, obsidian, black tourmaline, lapis lazuli, hematite, smokey quartz, jet, larvikite, and smokey quartz.
