Medicinally, Mullein is often used in teas and tinctures for respiratory issues and acts as an expectorant to clear mucus. Rich in antioxidants and mucilage it is used to treat inflammation in the lungs and throat, bronchitis, asthma, tuberculosis, and diarrhea. The leaves can be crushed and used to make a poultice for wounds, burns, rashes, rheumatic pain, swollen tissues, and bruises. Historically the leaves were smoked to relieve respiratory congestion.
